Virgin Media rolling out in Shrewsbury
The Virgin Media footprint in Shrewsbury is one of the latest large areas of Virgin Media coverage added to our checker and and map systems.
We don't know how much further the roll-out is set to spread out across Shrewsbury but we will keep our eyes open for more coverage in the coming weeks and months.
The roll-out is using RFOG/FTTP which means that while the public is limited to the same cable broadband speeds and download/upload ratios as in the rest of the UK and they will still have to wait for Virgin Media to enable the DOCSIS 3.1 network option. The use of RFOG means if Virgin Media decide that the DOCSIS standard has reached end of life moving to more traditional fibre network products is fairly easy.
With some 900,000 premises now passed by the Virgin Media RFOG/FTTP network they are set to remain the second largest FTTP operator in the UK for sometime, assuming they keep building at the pace they have in the last year.
